Will-I-Am Calls For Ethical Stance On 3d Printing Human Bodies

Music producer and front man of the Black Eyed Peas, Will.i.am, speaking at the launch of his range of lifestyle products, the sustainable Ekocycle, said he believed the that 3D technology would advance to a stage where entire humans would be produced “in our lifetime.” He spoke of his perceived need for “new morals, new laws and new codes” for 3D printing.

3D printing technology has already been utilised to manufacture prototype organs with living cells and it is predicted by experts that, in less than ten years, we will have the capability to print whole human tissues.

Will.i.am claims that this is “whole new territory” and that “new codes and morals – beyond laws… (have) to be instilled into us.”  “If you can print a liver… you’re going to be able to print a whole freaking person,” he stated.
